Mishal Husain

Broken Threads: A Family from Empire to Independence

An award-winning broadcaster whose work has taken her around the world, Mishal Husain presented her final edition of the Today programme last year, joining Bloomberg News as Editor-at-Large.

Inspired by the fragment of an old sari worn by her grandmother at her wedding, her acclaimed memoir ‘Broken Threads’ takes us on a personal journey through her family’s letters and diaries. Through a patchwork of hurried departures, lucky escapes and homes never seen again, she weaves a story of a generation shaped by the Raj, a world war, independence and partition.
