More About This Event

Gavin Bryars in concert with young musicians from DRET.

Join us for an extraordinary evening led by the renowned composer Gavin Bryars. Gavin has been collaborating with music students in local DRET secondary schools, and we are thrilled to welcome them to perform with the Gavin Bryars Ensemble as part of this concert.

A visionary in contemporary classical music, Bryars is best known for works such as The Sinking of the Titanic and Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, both featured in this performance. These compositions weave history, humanity, and sound into a moving musical experience.

Created in 1969, The Sinking of the Titanic is inspired by reports that the ship’s band continued playing as the vessel sank. This composition is a haunting reflection on the final moments of the ill-fated ship.

Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet (1972) is built around a poignant recording of a homeless man singing a simple hymn of faith. Bryars’ accompaniment transforms the looped vocal into an understated testimony to the man’s optimistic spirit, despite his situation.

Don’t miss this unforgettable concert.
